Regions of Minnesota

Minnesota is too big for one forecast. The state splits into 2 regions, each with its own site — the same maps, the same live radar and the same climate record, scoped to the counties that actually share a sky. Every city in a region gets its own page underneath it.

Minneapolis–Saint Paul
The Cities · I-494/694 · The Metro
OPEN →
Three and a half million people at the top of the Mississippi, with nothing between them and Canada. The metro takes the full Minnesota swing — ice storms that glaze the whole beltway at once, blizzards that shut I-35 in both directions, forty below wind chills, and a July severe season that has put tornadoes down inside the city limits.

The Zenith City · I-35 · Lake Superior
OPEN →
Lake Superior never really warms, and it runs the whole forecast up here. The lake breeze holds Duluth in the fifties while Hibbing bakes, the November gales come up the length of it, and the snow off the lake piles on the hillside above the city. Inland, the Iron Range and the border country post the coldest readings in the lower forty-eight.
