Snowfall comes from NOAA’s National Snowfall Analysis (NOHRSC), the gridded 24-hour analysis the National Weather Service builds on the 2.5 km NDFD grid, accumulated to the snow season. Figures here are the mean over the available complete seasons of that record, its full period — not a 30-year normal, because the analysis does not go back that far. It measures snowfall depth, not water equivalent. Area figures are the mean across this area’s counties, so a large county counts the same as a small one, and every county value is itself the average over the grid cells inside it — a mountain county spanning a valley floor and a summit reports the average of the two, not the summit.
